How do I turn it on?

From the Hazlnut dashboard,  please visit the Order Type settings. From there, you will first need to create the DoorDash order type:

  1. Click 'Create New'
  2. Select an icon (recommended icons: doordash, delivery, house)
  3. Display Name: This is what the customer sees, you can call it Delivery, DoorDash Delivery, DoorDash, up to you!
  4. Order Type: Must be DoorDash in order for the DoorDash integration to be linked up
  5. Type will be 'Single Selection' be default, Allows Future disabled by default (DoorDash integration does not accept future orders, only ASAP).
  6. Enabled: ON (or leave it OFF until you are ready to launch this ordering type)
  7. Description: This is what the customer will see just below of the Display Name. In 50 characters or less, describe what this order type is. For example: 'Delivery provided by DoorDash'.
  8. Fee: This is an amount you would like to charge the customer to pay for their DoorDash Delivery order. As mentioned below, DoorDash charges a flat fee of $8.00 per DoorDash order. You can pass a portion of the cost, or the full amount to your customer.
  9. Fee Type: Flat dollar fee, or percentage-based rate?
  10. Fee Label: This is the display name that the customer sees so they know what they are paying for. We recommend 'DoorDash Fee', 'Delivery Fee', 'Convenience Fee', or 'Service Fee'.
  11. Hour Set: Please select your default store hours for this order type to respect. These are the available times when customers can place their DoorDash orders. We suggest these hours be set to opening time through 45 minutes before closing time to give enough time for the Dasher to arrive and deliver the order before you close for the day.
  12. For Kiosk? - By default, this will be off. DoorDash & Delivery type of orders are not intended for kiosk use.
  13. Click 'Save' and contact support@hazlnut.com to finalize the billing portion.

Once the DoorDash order type is added, you can use the 'Enabled' toggle to turn it on/off.

Optional: If you only want to accept DoorDash during certain hours of the day, you can create a unique set of "DoorDash Hours" in the Hours Settings page.

Remember to contact support@hazlnut.com to finalize the billing portion

Upon request, we can bill the card on file.

If you need to change the preferred card for immediate DoorDash billing, please contact support@hazlnut.com with the name of your business and the location.

If the card on file fails during immediate billing, the DoorDash order type at your location will be disabled immediately until payment is updated.

How does it work?

This is simply a new order type while will not affect the way customers place an order through your Hazlnut online ordering or mobile app in any way. By enabling the DoorDash integration, customers will see a new option for delivery.

When they select it and enter their delivery address, we will verify there are available drivers within range before the customer proceeds to the menu. If there are no drivers available, or if their delivery address is outside of the standard 3-5 mile radius the customer will receive the following message: "Oops - Dropoff address not within service area."

If the delivery address is within range, the customer will continue with their order as usual and at check-out the default tip will be positioned at 20%. This is a contractual obligation by DoorDash to suggest 10% or 20% tip, with 20% pre-selected. Any changes to your Tip Settings will not affect the tips for DoorDash.

Delivery Range

They say, on average, the range is a 3-5 mile radius from the restaurant location.

From DoorDash: "Each store on DoorDash has a circular delivery area extending out from their store. Any consumer within that delivery area will be able to see and order from that store. The “Basic” delivery area is set based on the specifics of the market you operate in. For example, in a dense urban market (like New York City), the delivery area will be smaller than in a sprawled, rural market (like southern Virginia.)"

After check-out the customer will be able to track their DoorDash order with a clickable pop-up message (app only) or through a tracking link included in their email receipt (apps and web).

How much does it cost?

DoorDash is available for a flat consumption-based fee of $8 in addition to your existing Hazlnut services. This means, you only pay when a customer successfully checks-out using the DoorDash order type. No additional commission rate will be charged for the DoorDash orders, just the $8.00 consumption-based fee.

★ You have the option to charge a portion of or the full $8 fee to your customers as a 'Delivery Fee' or 'Processing Fee'. Currently, the majority of restaurants are charging $4 to the customer and taking on the remaining $4. You can also charge the fee as a percentage rate, some guests may end up paying less or more than $8 but it will even out at the end.

★ 100% of any tip added to a DoorDash order will go to the driver.

★ The $8.00 DoorDash fee and the tip is charged to your card on file immediately when the transaction is processed.

If the card on file fails during immediate billing, the DoorDash order type at your location will be disabled immediately until payment is updated.

If you need to verify the card is up to date and the preferred for immediate billing, please contact support@hazlnut.com with the name of your business and the location.

How does it appear on my PoS?

All orders by Hazlnut are processed the same.

All DoorDash orders will be processed by your Clover merchant account. The order information can be filtered by the 'Hazlnut' employee or 'DoorDash Delivery' order types. The transaction details will appear under the Clover account owner's name.

Keep in mind, any fee or tip on a DoorDash order will be charged to your account immediately. These should be subtracted from your revenue or other sales calculations.

Do not share DoorDash fees or tips with your employees during the 'Tip Share' or 'Close Out' at the end of a shift.

Do I need to sign a separate agreement?

No agreement with DoorDash is needed, this is an integration added to your Hazlnut services agreement. We will need to verify the card on-file is up to date and the best method for immediate billing.

Reminder: You will only be billed based on consumption. Each time a DoorDash transaction goes through, the card on-file will be charged for the tip + $8 per order fee.

Example?

John Smith orders $100 of food

John adds a 20% tip, and at check-out John sees the $8.00 Ordering Fee.

The restaurant will receive $128 (plus tax) from the transaction, but get billed $28 immediately to the card on file for Hazlnut services. That is $20 tip + $8 DoorDash fee.

John adds a 10% tip, and at check-out John sees a $4.00 Delivery Fee.

The restaurant will receive $114 (plus tax) from the transaction, but get billed $18 immediately to the card on file for Hazlnut services. That is $10 tip + $8 DoorDash fee.
